Super Eagles
Ademola Lookman’s rise from English youth football to the top of the African game is one of the great modern Super Eagles stories. In 2024 he was crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year — and he earned every bit of it.
From England to Nigeria
Born in London, Lookman came through the English system with Charlton and Everton before finding his feet at RB Leipzig and then Atalanta in Italy. He chose to represent Nigeria, the country of his heritage, and quickly became one of the Super Eagles’ most dangerous attackers.
The night he made history
Lookman’s defining moment came in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final, where he scored a stunning hat-trick to fire Atalanta to a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen — ending the German side’s remarkable unbeaten season and delivering Atalanta’s first major European trophy.
African Footballer of the Year
That brilliance was recognised when he was named CAF African Footballer of the Year for 2024, joining an elite list of African greats. For Nigeria, he is box-office — a match-winner on the biggest nights.
