Another weekend, another Manchester United horror show — and this one arrived with a familiar, sinking inevitability.

Chelsea beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and if anything the scoreline was kind. Cole Palmer doubled the lead on 64 minutes with the ice-cold finish that's fast becoming his trademark, and once Lisandro Martínez had been sent off, United's afternoon carried the energy of a team willing the final whistle to put it out of its misery.

This isn't a blip. It's a pattern.

Rewind seven days: Bournemouth put three past them. In Europe, Como — Como — hung four on them. Stitch it together and this isn't a bad day at the office; it's a genuine freefall, and nobody at Old Trafford looks like they're holding the parachute.

Pick your villain

Is it the manager? The recruitment? An ownership that keeps running a storied club like a spreadsheet? The honest answer is probably all three in a trench coat. What's not up for debate is that United's defenders spent Saturday doing that thing where everyone assumes someone else will make the tackle — and against a young Chelsea side that smells blood, that's a death sentence.

The contrast that stings

Here's the needle: these two clubs are sprinting in opposite directions. Chelsea have built a snarling, ascendant young core with Palmer as its cold-blooded heartbeat. United have… potential, apparently — a lot of it, on very expensive wages. One of these clubs looks like it has a plan. It isn't the one from Manchester.

Our take: until someone at the top makes a real decision, expect more Saturdays like this one. Prove us wrong, United.
