Three games. Three goals. Zero chill.

Victor Osimhen is putting Turkish defences through a blender. His latest came in Galatasaray’s 4-0 demolition of Konyaspor, and he’s now closing in on the club’s all-time record for a foreign goalscorer — a mark that’s stood for years and is about to get mugged in broad daylight. Half of Europe had a window to sign this man. Their loss is Istanbul’s gain, and the Gala fans know it.

But here’s the fight worth having

Is Osimhen still, right now, today, Nigeria’s best player? Because the competition is not sitting quietly.

Over in Madrid, Ademola Lookman is Diego Simeone’s personal reclamation project — and when Cholo, a man who’d field five defenders in a game of rock-paper-scissors, bends his system into a 4-3-3 to get the best out of you, that’s not a favour. That’s respect. Lookman on song is as unplayable as anyone Nigeria owns.

Then the quiet bombshell: at Fulham, Alex Iwobi just drew level with Mohamed Salah on 328 Premier League appearances. Read that again. The player once booed by parts of his own fanbase is now mentioned in the same breath as a Prem great. Beside him, Calvin Bassey keeps doing the unglamorous defending that wins managers trophies and wins highlight reels precisely nothing.

Spare a thought for the fall guys

Not everyone had a weekend to frame. Maduka Okoye fished the ball out of his net five times as Udinese were taken apart by Roma, and Josh Maja grabbed a consolation in Le Havre’s battering by PSG. Occupational hazard — somebody has to be on the wrong end of the goal-fests.

Why it matters for the Super Eagles

The kicker: Nigeria have more attacking firepower abroad than almost anyone in Africa — and a national team that’s gone five games without a clean sheet. The talent was never the problem. Fixing the end that actually concedes goals? That’s another article entirely — and we’ll get to it.

Our verdict: Osimhen’s the one in form, but this debate has no losers. Nigeria is spoiled. Osimhen or Lookman — who’s your No.1?
